India is one of the busiest wedding markets in the world, and much of it now happens away from home. Industry reports in 2025 estimated that about one in four weddings in India is a destination wedding, and that most of those are held within the country, in lake palaces, desert forts, beach resorts and hill stations. For families abroad, a luxury destination wedding India trip is a chance to bring relatives from several continents together for a week. For the film, it is a chance to capture settings that few places can match. This guide covers how to plan it.

What is changing in destination weddings in India
Three trends stand out for 2026.
- Smaller lists, higher standards. Many families are trimming guest numbers and spending more on hospitality, rooms and food, so the celebration feels personal rather than crowded.
- Longer weekends. Welcome lunches, pool parties, cocktail evenings and recovery brunches now sit alongside the main events, turning a wedding into a full itinerary.
- Daytime and garden settings. Open lawns, courtyards and outdoor ceremonies are in demand, which brings natural light into the film and gives a softer, more editorial look.
Each of these shapes the film. A longer weekend means more filming days, and outdoor events mean planning around the sun rather than a ballroom’s lighting rig.
Choosing the season
India’s main wedding season runs from roughly October or November to March, when the weather across most of the country is dry and comfortable. The monsoon, roughly June to September, brings heavy rain to many regions, and April to June can be very hot in the north and west. Peak-season dates at the best palace hotels often book a year or more ahead, so families who know their window should hold venues and crew early.
Popular regions and what they mean on camera
Udaipur
Lakes, palace hotels and boat arrivals make Udaipur one of the most filmable cities in the country. An Udaipur palace wedding film usually plays on reflections, terraces and evening light over the water, and the crew needs to plan positions on boats and across the lake as well as at the venue.
Jaipur
A Jaipur destination wedding brings pink sandstone, painted courtyards and grand forts. Jaipur has an international airport, and venues near it can sit in controlled airspace, which matters for drone plans.
Goa and the coast
A Goa beach wedding film is lighter in tone, with ceremonies near the water, relaxed dinners and dancing late into the night. Sea breezes and surf call for careful microphone placement so vows and speeches stay clear.

Palace venues, heritage rules and drones
“Heritage” covers two different kinds of venue. Privately owned palace hotels set their own rules on sound, decor, vendors and filming, much like any luxury hotel. Protected monuments are a different matter, and private events are generally not allowed at them. Ask which kind of property you are booking before you plan any shot around it.
Drone flights in India follow national rules. The drone must be registered, the pilot certified, and the exact venue checked on the national airspace map, which marks green, yellow and red zones. Temporary restrictions can be declared at short notice, so the map is checked again close to the date, and the venue can still refuse a drone on its own grounds. In practice, a travelling crew usually works with a locally registered drone and a certified pilot.
Hiring an India destination wedding videographer from abroad
Film Style Weddings has filmed weddings in India, including Prashant + Prema’s destination wedding and Shobana + Michael’s celebration in Bangalore and Halifax. We have also filmed in Mexico, the United Kingdom, Nigeria, Punta Cana, Jamaica and Paris. When families hire an India destination wedding videographer from overseas, the planning steps are the same:
- Share the full itinerary. Every event, venue and start time, so the crew size and filming days can be set.
- Walk the venues. In person or by video call, to plan camera positions, light, sound and any boat or rooftop shots.
- Agree the films you want to keep. A feature film, a trailer, full ceremony and speech edits, and short cuts to share.
- Plan the premiere. A same day edit wedding film screened at the final reception is a memorable way to close a long weekend.

FAQ
When is the best time for a destination wedding in India?
For most regions, October or November to March gives the most comfortable weather. The monsoon, roughly June to September, is usually avoided for outdoor events.
Can a wedding film crew from abroad film in India?
Yes. A travelling crew plans visas, equipment and venue permissions in advance, and usually works with a locally registered drone pilot for aerial shots.
How many days of filming does a luxury wedding in India need?
Most luxury weddings in India run over three to five days. We plan coverage event by event, so every part of the week you want in the film is filmed.
Can we add a concept film to our wedding?
Yes. Concept Films start from $15,000 and can be filmed during the same trip. See our Destination page and Films archive for examples of our work.
