  • Simran + Garry – Next Day Edit

At times, and somewhat unfairly to the bride and groom, much attention is drawn to the business and complexity of South Asian weddings, and not a whole lot is left to spare on the bride and groom themselves. This next wedding however, was outstanding in its ability to evoke a warm understanding of the bride and groom, for even its tiniest details spoke volumes about who they were as a couple.

Classy, fun and full of heart- from attire and decor to the enormity of their wedding party- it was evident that Simran and Gary cared just as much about those dearest to them feeling included and enjoying themselves as much as they did.

A sense of family was very much felt and celebrated by all present, and the jesting and merriment did not cease for a moment. Simran and Gary were married with the greatest blessing, the overwhelming warmth and support of two very loving families.

  • Gemma + Kartik – Next/Same Day Edit

One often hears of couples who meet through mutual friends or family and as luck would sometimes have it- things can progress over a simple cup of coffee. However, it is not quite so common to hear of two people falling in love at a coffee convention .

Yes, you read that correctly. Gemma and Kartik, both owners of Second Cup franchises met at a conference in Costa Rica – and as they both can now attest, the coffee beans weren’t the only thing there worthy of captivating another’s attention.

Gemma is a very sweet young woman with a distinctly appealing British accent. She is a huge fan of Bollywood and her rocking dance moves at her Sangeet were a testament to that. Although the viewer catches only a quick glimpse in this next day edit, our vibrant bride thoroughly enjoyed herself and danced alongside almost every single guest at the hall.

Her groom Kartik, on the other hand is a bit more discreet about his love for Bollywood dance moves and classic tales of love. He is a straightforward guy who loves family and because of this, is even more noticeably devoted to Gemma.

Although they have different personalities, what they certainly do have in common is an extraordinary knack for dealing with pressure. Their wedding ceremony was held outdoors and unfortunately, the heavy downpour of rain hindered a few plans. They did not have their photo shoot and the outdoor sound system could not be utilized, but the couple would not let Mother Nature get the best of their day. We like to think it was the beauty of the Costa Rican sun in the memory of their very first encounter- that caused their hearts and eyes to keep shining in the face of a little bit of rain on their special day.

  • Jesleen + Jihad – Same Day Edit

Now that you have seen Jesleen + Jihad’s Concept Music Video, we move forward to their wedding day.

The ceremony and reception were held at Graydon Hall Manor & Royal Ambassador respectively. The former was an outdoor event on one of the most hottest days of the summer. But the cool breeze from the trees, a bit of a shade and the world’s shortest Sikh ceremony (19 minutes) helped everyone make it through. It was an intimate ceremony with under 80 guests which made our job a little easier The reception however, was a bigger event with roughly 350 odd guests.

Our day began earlier in the morning with getting ready coverage followed by ceremony and same day reception. Due to a long drive from one venue to another, we only had 4 hours to put together this Same Day Edit. Along included here few pre-wedding ceremonies that took place at the bride’s house.

Our entire business model is based on word of mouth. And it’s always nice to hear that a couple saw our films somewhere online or someone’s house or simply at the wedding.

Jesleen and Jihad’s case is no different. Having seen our work at another wedding 2 years back, they came to us 18 months ago to inquire about August 25th, 2012 weekend. That took us a lot of time to get to know them as a couple.

  • Saj + Jessica Next/Same Day Edit

Do Quirky and Calm go together? If you disagree, you may want to change your mind after watching Saj + Jessica in this Next/Same Day Edit.

If you haven’t already seen their film “Meeting at Pizza Hut”, please do so before watching this by going over here. There is certainly a connection at the end of that film and beginning of this.

This is probably the 5th wedding we have done this year where the bride lets the groom run the show. Since grooms are not used to dealing with wedding details, they normally end up going overboard. In other words, Groomzilla Nothing wrong with that, in fact, we welcome that. We end up working with those couples who are both more or less heavily involved in their wedding instead of just one. Otherwise, there is no fun.

Saj + Jessica were definitely a pleasure to work with. As I mentioned, Saj is a very quirky type of a guy. He has a certain way of saying things that end up being humorous. Whereas Jessica is a quiet but very particular about what she wants. Their wedding had many unique factors but one that stood out was that they got married at Toronto’s International Centre, which to our knowledge has never held a wedding before.

  • Simmy + Harmeet – Next Day Edit

Simmy + Harmeet came to us rather late than many other couples. Unlike others who come to us at least a year or earlier in advance, they approached us just 6 months ago to date. And luckily we were open to one of the most demanding long weekend every year. The July 1st weekend.

Once all was said and done, we stayed in touch with the couple a few times over emails which is normally a lot less than how we connect but luckily it all worked out nice.

An amazing couple with down to earth personalities but high expectations. Let’s hope we met theirs.

  • Aman + Parv – Next Day Edit

When was the last time you had a bride designing her own wedding outfits. That’s right, the bride (Aman) designed not only her wedding outfit but also 3 other outfits pertaining to her events. She then took those designs to India and had them made.

If that doesn’t impress you then get this. She had a strong hand in the decor for her reception. She made hundreds of paper cranes, designed flowers and many other details to make her dream day become reality.

Now even though, Aman did all this, what about the groom (Parv). Parv did what any good man would do. He supported her vision.
Aman and Parv’s wedding although very simple had a certain elegance to it. Their outfits and events literary were reflection of their personalities. To add to that, they had one heck of a wedding party. The bridesmaid and groom’s men were extremely outspoken contrasting to the couple’s soft spoken personality. They did and said the silliest things as you would witness in this Next Day Edit.

We have always believed that every wedding is about everything but nothing. Remember how everyone loved Seinfeld back in the day with absolutely no plot but different stories emerging into one. We feel weddings are more or less like that. They are all the same but it’s the things that take place from early morning until late at night that defines it. May it be the grand entrance or the dancing baraat or Much Ado About Nothing

  • Salam – E – Ishq – Thank You 2011 Couples // Welcome 2012 Couples

Every year, we have couples who gives us the opportunity to film their special day. And every year, we get different couples with different ideas and although traditionally more or less they are all same, each wedding has it’s own spark.

To salute our 2011 Couples, we have put together a Reel as we bid them farewell in the married lives and look forward to 2012 couples.
    Enjoy

  • Sameera + Jagandeep – Reception

Film-Style has always had the unique pleasure of working with interfaith couples. Covering an interfaith marriage is loads of fun, not just because of the different cultural and religious traditions that are all wrapped up in one big happy package  but also because it’s a rewarding experience to be able to see two very different worldviews, encompassed within those cultural and religious traditions, become as one. It’s a ‘feel good’ kind of wedding that enables and embraces differences even as it reconciles them within the institution of a marriage.

Sameera (the Muslim bride) and Jagan (the Sikh groom) proved to us once again this beauty of an interfaith union. On July 8th, this couple held their Sangeet/Holud where their respective cultural traditions were paid tribute to “desi-style,” with a lot of dancing and a lot of performances. And on July 9th, their respective religious traditions were honored and upheld at their respective religious ceremonies, with a lot of love and respect from their families.

We wish this couple great success in the future and a lot of happy new traditions in the making. Cheers!

  • Jason + Indi – Next Day Edit

At each and every wedding, a specific event becomes a most memorable highlight of the wedding itself and the major underlying theme in our same-day or next-day edits.

At Indi and Jason’s wedding that highlight was the “Money at the Door” game. The game, for those unfamiliar with it, is similar to the “Chinese Door Game.” Following the marriage ceremony, the groom, along with his entourage of male friends and family, arrives at the bride’s house to “retrieve” his bride, as it were. His entrance is blocked by the bride’s entourage of female friends and family. Passage is only permitted when the groom hands over cash (large sums only) to the bridal party. Traditionally, the game takes place immediately after the ceremony, but in the case of this bride and groom, it took place much later and went on for a lot longer.

The groom and his entourage made the bridal party wait for over an hour before gracing them with their presence. If that wasn’t enough to annoy the ladies, the gentlemen then went on to play cards, have drinks and generally have a good time, making the ladies wait even longer for the request of passage. But the ladies were opponents on par. Watch for yourself, their method of reprisal.

  • Destination Wedding – Suri + Ruben – Next Day Edit

In June of 2010, we received a phone call just as we were closing office for the day. A Suri Dhaliwal from Winnipeg was calling to inquire about our Cinematography & Photography services. Normally, we request the client to call back during business hours, but on a whim, I asked Suri to call my cell 20 minutes later.

Twenty minutes later, I was out shopping with the family when Suri called back accompanied by her fiancée, Ruben Karla on speaker phone. While my wife carried on with the shopping, I wandered around aimlessly, immersed as I was in the conversation, which lasted about 30 minutes. Even though I’d never actually met the couple (not yet that is), they struck me straightaway as clientele for whom we would no doubt do something very special.

Our team flew down to Winnipeg for 6 days to cover the pre-wedding events including the mehndi, mayyun and chunni rasm, followed by the wedding itself i.e. the elegant sikh ceremony and then the grand reception.

Getting to know the couple is central to Film-Style’s philosophy. Ruben and Suri proved this philosophy all the more indispensable. We spent a great deal of time with both of them, which is precisely why we believe that their chemistry translated onto the screen as gracefully and as seamlessly as it did.

Congrats to the couple and their families. Cheers!
