After travelling around the world for the past 5 months, we are finally back at home front to do our first wedding in Canada. Although, we had blast travelling and meeting new people, home is after all home.
Sana + Fahad are a very simple yet elegant couple. Sana’s personality lies is on the shy side, whereas Fahad’s personality falls more on the leadership side. He knows what she wants and makes sure he takes care of it. Both’s personality compliments each other very nicely which you will see in the next day edit
To add to that, this Next Day Edit, as well as the final wedding film is the first wedding to be filmed on the Black Magic Cinema Cameras. The quality of these camera is far beyond than it’s DSLR counterparts.
In order to produce a good wedding film, it is imperative that both the groom and the bride are involved in their wedding as if it was their passion. It makes a huge difference. And folks it’s not just about us able to capture the memorable moments but it’s primarily the people in those moments. If one is quiet and the other is chirpy, it just doesn’t translate very well on the screen.
Safi + Sahar are similar to almost every one of our couple but have a unique chemistry. One loves to crack jokes and the other loves to laugh even when she is dealing with a stress situation. That doesn’t mean that they don’t take their life seriously.
Although, we had a strong sense of that when we met them but to our surprise, they were very much like that even during their wedding festivities. We wish them all the best.
Now that you have seen Jesleen + Jihad’s Concept Music Video, we move forward to their wedding day.
The ceremony and reception were held at Graydon Hall Manor & Royal Ambassador respectively. The former was an outdoor event on one of the most hottest days of the summer. But the cool breeze from the trees, a bit of a shade and the world’s shortest Sikh ceremony (19 minutes) helped everyone make it through. It was an intimate ceremony with under 80 guests which made our job a little easier The reception however, was a bigger event with roughly 350 odd guests.
Our day began earlier in the morning with getting ready coverage followed by ceremony and same day reception. Due to a long drive from one venue to another, we only had 4 hours to put together this Same Day Edit. Along included here few pre-wedding ceremonies that took place at the bride’s house.
Our entire business model is based on word of mouth. And it’s always nice to hear that a couple saw our films somewhere online or someone’s house or simply at the wedding.
Jesleen and Jihad’s case is no different. Having seen our work at another wedding 2 years back, they came to us 18 months ago to inquire about August 25th, 2012 weekend. That took us a lot of time to get to know them as a couple.
We have always been blessed to work some of the most amazing couples around the world. Whether you call it pure luck or simply a perfect connection or whatever else, one thing is certain. It would never be possible if we didn’t have thorough consultations with them.
Ambreen and Javed contacted us from Oslo, Norway to cover their wedding in July of this year. They emailed us and as always our first response before anything was, let’s skype. And that we did. We video conferenced for good 45 minutes and learned about their story, explained our side of things and so on.
That then lead dozens of email discussions and few more skype meetings.
Aside from the concept film that we produced for them (which you can see at https://vimeo.com/45580311 ), we also produced a Next Day Edit. From the beginning, the focus for the Next Day Edit was to produce something upbeat and energetic. After the first event (mendi), we were 100% sure that we would have to produce something extremely jubilant but romantic at the same time. Every wedding film, we produce, there is always an underlying theme. In this case, it was pure fun and dancing as the main element with sub plot being the couple’s wedding story.
Each and every day was full of vibrant colour and beautiful moments. However, our favourite parts were the mode of transportation that were used on each evening. At mehndi night, Ambreen entered in on a Rickshaw where as on the wedding day, Javed made an entrance on a Horse Carriage and last but not least, the reception featured them both coming on Rolls Royce.
Ambreen, Javed and our team literary spent 9 out of 10 days together in Norway and we had a great time. We would like to thank the couple, their families and friends for an amazing hospitality for 10 days.
There is always a moment during our first meeting with couple that ignites the fire that will burn for a longtime. In case, there isn’t (and there are some times when that happens), nothing happens and both of us go our separate ways.
In the case of Anurag (Ronnie) and Arshdeep, the moment was when Ronnie showed his excitement for wedding more than Arsh (Arsh and I have often called him Groomzilla:) ) as well as his passion about filmmaking. And it wasn’t Ronnie but it was also Arsh’s genuine understanding of his excitement. That did it right there for us.
They decided to fly us out for their engagement event to Vancouver, BC and then of course we were commissioned to cover all their events here in Toronto.
We always get close to our couples every year. With Ronnie and Arsh, it was no different. We spent good few days with them driving around and filming their concept film The Poem plus many skype meetings and uncountable text messages.
It probably will sound cliche but truly Arsh and Ronnie are the perfect walls for each other. They are there for each other when the one or the other needs support.
In July of 2010, Cassandra Williams approached us for a concept production, having seen a few productions on our website. She also wanted to take us on for our cinematography services, only she’d already booked with another company. But following our conversations, she decided to opt out of her initial contract to sign up with us instead. And thus began this journey.
And thus began the brainstorming. We met up with both Cassandra and her fiancé Ravi Ramjit and came up with the idea of a Medley themed production that would highlight their relationship from its inception (at their first meeting) to its culmination (in their marriage), using bollywood songs from the 60’s onwards. We’d been waiting to realize just such a production for a while now, and had been waiting for just the right couple to star in it. So when Ravi and Cassandra mentioned the idea, we jumped on board! And boy, did these two prove to be just the couple for such a production:). Well done guys!
Our very first task was to find 9 songs that would aptly reflect Ravi and Cassandra’s connection and chemistry. The second part of course was the preparation for the multiple shoots. Finding the right locations, costumes and pulling off all the right looks for all the different songs was challenging. And filming proved challenging as well as tight schedules loomed large, particularly Ravi’s. But where there’s a will, there’s a way:). We broke the filming down into two parts: the first part consisted of 3 full days of filming and the second, 2 full days of filming. The final product is, I must say, phenomenal. We outdid ourselves, and special thanks goes out to Olga Make-Up, Body and Art for creating almost identical looks to those of the songs we selected. And to Fine Cakes by Zehra, CTC West and Crystal Fountain Banquet Hall, all of whom were a tremendous help in the completion of this project.
And finally, *a round of applause* to the couple: Ravi and Cassandra, may we be the first to say that you two would give any bollywood couple a run for their money:). *Cheers and Applause!*

And thus began the brainstorming. We met up with both Cassandra and her fiancé Ravi Ramjit to that end…the conclusion of which was the concept film ‘Kismet se Milna’ (A Chance Encounter). But enough about that, let’s get down to the crux of the matter: the wedding itself!
It is Film-Style’s philosophy that our team should come to know the couple very well, so that we can produce work that really brings forth the couple’s personality, and that the couple should come to know our team very well so that they become completely comfortable in front of the camera. To that end, we spent well over 30 hours in Skype conferencing with Ravi and Cassandra over the past year—and it certainly shows. Both Ravi and Cassandra were very relaxed throughout each event, i.e. the mehndi, the pooja, and the ceremony and reception.
Hindu weddings are a bright affair as it is but this one was especially so–it was full of life, colour and a lot of fun. And Dream Party Decor‘s decor was, as always: Stunning. So have a look at this Next Day Edit and check out the much anticipated concept film ‘Kismet se Milna’ (A Chance Encounter), tomorrow.
Interracial weddings have become the norm. And they’re always a great cultural learning experience for us, not to mention tremendous fun. Despite their current day prevalence though, we found Amy and Harsha’s wedding to be one of a kind.
Like some of our clients, we never had the chance to meet this couple beforehand due to their distant location. But we communicated over the phone regularly, in order to ensure the perfect capture of their perfect day.
Above are the highlights of the lavish ceremony and reception .
Every couple adds a unique flair of venue, to the universal event that a wedding is. Umair and Adeeba held their Mehndi and Valima events at a banquet hall like every other couple. But unlike every other couple, they decided to celebrate their Nikkah ceremony (the vows ceremony) in their backyard. A marquee housed the event, with close friends and family in attendance. It was an unusual venue, but no less striking than any other that we’ve encountered.
Umair and Adeeba found out about us at Fahad and Khatidja’s wedding and ever since, had their hearts set on our cinematography services. While Umair was pretty laid back (as most grooms tend to be), Adeeba knew exactly what she wanted and conveyed her ideas without hesitation. Coming from a family of five sisters, she drew inspiration from each of them and brought together multiple ideas with sophistication. And Umair, as the eldest in his family, took on the responsibility of ensuring that everything went smoothly and according to plan. These two make quite a team:)
