  • Nicole + Jonathan – Same Day Edit

Nicole and Jonathan’s wedding was a double ceremony affair. A Hindu/Christian Guyanese Wedding that featured the rich colour of a traditional Hindu wedding and the stunning architectural beauty of a Church.

Film-Style’s approach to this one was a little different from the rest. It is our creative policy that the music accompanying the footage reflect (and reflect well) the bride and groom’s heritage. As a fusion wedding, Bollywood simply wouldn’t have been suitable, nor Western music alone. The music had to be a fusion as well. Thus, the selection was an English song with some lovely Indian musical elements.

  • Jason + Indi – Next Day Edit

At each and every wedding, a specific event becomes a most memorable highlight of the wedding itself and the major underlying theme in our same-day or next-day edits.

At Indi and Jason’s wedding that highlight was the “Money at the Door” game. The game, for those unfamiliar with it, is similar to the “Chinese Door Game.” Following the marriage ceremony, the groom, along with his entourage of male friends and family, arrives at the bride’s house to “retrieve” his bride, as it were. His entrance is blocked by the bride’s entourage of female friends and family. Passage is only permitted when the groom hands over cash (large sums only) to the bridal party. Traditionally, the game takes place immediately after the ceremony, but in the case of this bride and groom, it took place much later and went on for a lot longer.

The groom and his entourage made the bridal party wait for over an hour before gracing them with their presence. If that wasn’t enough to annoy the ladies, the gentlemen then went on to play cards, have drinks and generally have a good time, making the ladies wait even longer for the request of passage. But the ladies were opponents on par. Watch for yourself, their method of reprisal.

  • Sharmi + Bobby – Same Day Edit

What can be said about Bobby and Sharmi? Well, for starters, both are well-grounded in their adult selves, but neither is afraid to let loose their inner child. From the very first it was clear that their personalities complemented one another’s well. It was also quite clear that Bobby was out to make his future wife as happy as he could—which became even more evident on their wedding day.

Bobby is brimming with positive energy. And he knows how to pass it along. He strives to make others happy and manages it rather well since own his positive energy is so contagious. He’s a good chap and a good load of fun to be around.

As for Sharmi…well, let’s just say Sharmi was a startlingly calm bride. When her Mehndi artist was about 3 hours late, she didn’t so much as twitch, let alone fret. She may have been bothered and troubled on the inside, but she never let it come across. Not even for a second. And on top of that, she is quite the people person. In her reception speech Sharmi said, “people’s success is measured by the number of friends they have and considering that I am blessed with so many, I consider myself successful.” If success is measured by the enrichment brought into our lives by our relations, then Sharmi is indeed successful—as a daughter, sister, friend and future wife.

It was an honor to be a part of such a dazzling and delightful event. Congrats guys!

The song we used for Bobby and Sharmi’s Same Day Edit features the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Entitled “Afreen,” it came out in the mid 90’s and a personal favorite of mine because of its beautiful vocals, music and of course, for its rich poetry. Cheers!

  • Fahad + Ayesha – Wedding Trailer

Two words that don’t merely describe Fahad and Ayesha, but rather define them, are: calm and gracious. Film-Style’s first meeting with them was accidental, a chance run-in at a wedding show. But from that initial meeting and onwards, it was clear to us that Fahad and Ayesha were meant for each other.

The idea of an upcoming wedding conjures up a lot of images, most of them exciting and positive. But there is one less than positive element that threads its way into the most organized and the most meticulously planned of wedding events: chaos.

With all that’s going on at a wedding, something’s bound to go wrong. Take it from us: it’s inevitable. But most of the time, though the mishap tends to cause general madness, things get sorted out rather well. And the sequence of events tends to be universal: Something goes wrong, there’s a bit of a panic, and then–it’s all resolved. Fahad and Ayesha however, proved to be a couple that never panicked—not once. If they ever did, they hid it phenomenally well and not a soul was ever the wiser. You will certainly see their mutual and magic trait of calm in this wedding trailer. A three day wedding event composed of the Mehndi, Shaadi and the Valima.

    Cheers!

  • Aliya + Eric – Same Day Edit

Aliya and Erica saw us in action at Sapna and Shawn’s wedding, back in April of 2010 and upon seeing the Next Day Edit, decided to book us for their own wedding. Initially, they said, they’d decided against hiring any professional cinematography services, but our style was just too striking to pass up.

Aliya and Eric make quite an adventurous couple.  They’re rock climbers, scuba divers and hikers. You’ll find this adventurous streak of their’s apparent in the Same Day Edit.

The wedding day started off with the usual universal pre-wedding preparations. Then occurred the park shoot followed by the Church Ceremony (a salute to Eric’s heritage).  After about 7 hours of coverage, we headed over to the other end of the city to cover the Ismaili Ceremony (a salute to Aliya’s heritage) and then were back in Downtown Toronto at the Palais Royale for the Reception

The Same Day Edit features footage from the reception as well, including their choreographed First Dance. Enjoy.

  • Amy + Harsha – Wedding Highlights

Interracial weddings have become the norm. And they’re always a great cultural learning experience for us, not to mention tremendous fun. Despite their current day prevalence though, we found Amy and Harsha’s wedding to be one of a kind.

Like some of our clients, we never had the chance to meet this couple beforehand due to their distant location. But we communicated over the phone regularly, in order to ensure the perfect capture of their perfect day.

Above are the highlights of the lavish ceremony and reception
.

  • Umair + Adeeba – Next Day Edit

Every couple adds a unique flair of venue, to the universal event that a wedding is. Umair and Adeeba held their Mehndi and Valima events at a banquet hall like every other couple. But unlike every other couple, they decided to celebrate their Nikkah ceremony (the vows ceremony) in their backyard. A marquee housed the event, with close friends and family in attendance. It was an unusual venue, but no less striking than any other that we’ve encountered.

Umair and Adeeba found out about us at Fahad and Khatidja’s wedding and ever since, had their hearts set on our cinematography services. While Umair was pretty laid back (as most grooms tend to be), Adeeba knew exactly what she wanted and conveyed her ideas without hesitation. Coming from a family of five sisters, she drew inspiration from each of them and brought together multiple ideas with sophistication. And Umair, as the eldest in his family, took on the responsibility of ensuring that everything went smoothly and according to plan. These two make quite a team:)

Here is their Next Day Edit.

  • SDE – Melissa & Bruno

Common to all ‘brides to be’ is the aspect of organization. But Melissa was far more than just
organized. She was meticulous. Beginning with our first meeting with Bruno and Melissa,
right up until the final productions, Melissa remained very involved, touching base regularly
in order to ensure that every detail of production was well covered. And of course, it was.

The wedding, held at Luina Station, was as unique as the two people who were united and as
unique as their loved ones and their good friends. It was also a wedding as traditional as any
other wedding, filled with tears and laughter. Tears at the memory of Bruno’s late mother and
laughter at the soccer jokes that often erupted, since half the guests were Italian and the other
half, Portuguese. All in all, it was a wedding to be remembered.

Here is the Same Day Edit, highlighting the reception and the couple’s first dance. This was
shown approximately an hour after their first dance.
